4 Top Tips To Burglar Proofing Your Windows

Your windows are arguably one of the most important aspects to guard against when talking about home security, yet it’s often one of the most overlooked aspects of your overall home security protection. Many people spend thousands of dollars on CCTV and surveillance equipment, yet they forget one of the most vulnerable entry points into the home. With this in mind, here are 5 top tips that you can use for burglar proofing  your windows.

Reinforce your glass

There are several different methods you can use to reinforce your glass windows. Firstly there’s tempered glass which is way more durable than standard glass, making it much more difficult to smash. Then there’s laminated glass. This is usually a more expensive option but because it consists of a layer of vinyl sandwiched between two sheets of regular glass it’s extremely difficult to smash. In fact for a burglar to break through, they’d have to repeatedly strike the same spot numerous times, creating a lot of noise. Also available are wire mesh glass and bullet proof glass but bear in mind that these are very expensive to buy and aren’t really necessary for an everyday family.

Window grilles

Metal window grilles don’t have to look like the outside of a prison, instead they can be as decorative and as colourful as you like. The point is that they act as a deterrent as even if the glass is smashed, the burglar simply isn’t going to be able to squeeze through the gap. Love them or hate them, widow grilles are a great way to burglar proof your windows.

Alarm it

Why not think about installing a window alarm. There are several on the market all of which are relatively discreet. Most are triggered by movement so when the window is tampered with or smashed, the alarm is likely to go off. Some have a built in infra-red sensor which detects movement in and around the window before the window is tampered with. This sets of a alarm which is then picked up the alarm company.

Window locks

Finally, never underestimate the power of the good old fashioned lock. Window locks have been on the market for years and are still one of the best pieces of burglar deterrent at you can buy. What’s more they’re relatively cheap too. Deadbolts, sash window locks, and vinyl window locks are all designed to keep unwanted guests out and can easily be fitted to pretty much any window.
