First Aid Training Courses Every Security Guard Should Have Under Their Belt

The aim of a security
guard isn’t only to act as a deterrent against criminal activity and
behaviour. It’s also to provide back-up in the event of a situation
or emergency. For this reason it’s highly important for security
guards to be first-aid trained. With this in mind, here are 3
essential first aid courses every security guard should attend.

Basic first aid
training

Having basic first-aid
training is a necessity for all security guards. As they’re
ultimately the first line of response in the event of an incident,
it’s understandable that they should also be the first line of
response in the event of an accident or emergency. In an ideal world
all security guards should have common medical knowledge so that they
know how to deal with situations should they arise.

CPR training

If, as a security
guard, you’re working closely with a lot of people there may be a
situation where an accident or an emergency causes a person in
question to need Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) before proper
medical attention arrives. In some cases, time could well be of the
essence. Therefore the ability to perform CPR treatment before the
paramedics arrive might make the difference between life and death.
Understandably this responsibility could fall on the security guard.

Automated External
Defibrillator (AED) Training

As heart problems are
becoming more and more common place, AED training is key. An
Automated External Defibrillator has the ability to analyse heart
rhythm and if needs be, to deliver an electrical shock to kick start
or restore normal heart beat. Nowadays AED devices are installed in
many public settings such as shopping centres, airports, and schools.
These are all places where security guards would be expected to work.
A defibrillator can save lives if used quickly and properly, so by
having that training, a security guard has the knowledge to not only
be able to stabilise the person in distress, but also to act as a
first response should the situation arise.
