When looking to run a
large-scale event, outsourcing event security is by far the most
sensible option. Aside from eliminating the stress of what is already
likely to be a massive organisational task, it gives peace of mind to
organisers knowing that their guests are in safe and secure hands.
That said, with security being such an integral part of your event,
hiring the right or wrong company can make or break it. With this in
mind, what factors do you look for when outsourcing your event
security? Let’s take a closer look.
Find out how the
company recruits its security staff
Does the security
company you’re looking to hire have a team of experienced personnel
that they can call on at the drop of a hat? Or do they recruit a
number of non-experienced people from a wide range of back grounds
and carry out on-the job training prior to the event? If they adopt
the former policy, then you should have a slick, well-oiled team that
knows how to run the security aspect of your event. Conversely, if
they have to carry out on the job training for say 40 or 50 person
who aren’t trained in event security, then there are likely to be
some teething problems.
Reference checks
Any event security
company worth their salt should have no problems in providing
references from past clients. Check if they’ve carried out security
for any type of event which is similar in size, style, and scale to
yours. In addition why not go one step further and ask them to
provide contact details of clients so that you can complete the
checking process. The last thing you want is an inexperienced
security team taking control of the safety of your event and your
guests, so it pays to be thorough.
Do they have the
sufficient hardware to run the security aspect of such an event?
A 21st
century security company should be able to supply all the 21st
century technology which make theirs and your job easier. This may
include wristband scanners for control of entry, the latest security
wands for searching, and up to date communications equipment, so that
they can react to any issues quickly. If they haven’t invested in
this progressive technology to make their job easier and your event
run more efficiently, then it may be worth questioning whether they
are the right company for your event.
If the security company
you’re looking to hire ticks all the boxes and is a company that you
feel comfortable in working with, then you can always put them to the
test and get them to give you a quote. Ask them to break the costs
down so you can see exactly where your money is being spent and what
for. This way, you know 100% that they’re the right company for you.
