Hosting A Party? What To Look For In A Security Guard

A great party is one that’s talked about for months or even years after the event and not for the wrong reasons. The last thing you want for the party that you’ve spent weeks planning is for it to be ruined by gatecrashers, disturbances and fights.

So what’s the solution?

Hire a security guard. So what sort of things should you be looking for in a security guard? Well there may be a few things that you hadn’t even thought of.

First of all it’s worth considering that old adage “you get what you pay for”. You may find people who will offer their services for next to nothing or friends who’ll offer to keep an eye on things for free. The problem with this is that you’re looking to hire a security guard to keep everyone safe. Do you know how your friends would react under pressure? What about if they’ve had a few drinks too? Are they qualified? What would they do if a fight broke out? Would they be able to get it under control or are they likely to make things worse?

The same can also be applied to security guards who provide their services for cheap. Often they’ll send someone along who looks big and burly but should a situation arise, they may not have the necessary skills to handle it effectively.

Another thing to be wary of is a security company not giving you the right numbers. If for example you have 600 people attending your event and they tell you that one guard will be sufficient, then they’re not speaking the truth. They’re selling it short in order to get your business plus they’re banking on there being no trouble. But if that were the case why would you be bothering with a security guard in the first instance?

More than just crowd control

Hiring a security guard isn’t just to prevent fights from breaking out or stopping gatecrashers from entering, instead they should provide a host of services which will make your party run smoothly. Things like preventing people a little worse for wear from alcohol from drinking anymore and getting them safely into a taxi. Preventing theft by keeping an eye on your valuables. Watching out for vandals and most importantly, making sure you have a great time too.

What to look for in a security guard

Ask them about what experience they have and if they have presided over a large event before. Make sure they have the right qualifications and training for the job so that they can handle any eventuality that may arise. Also make sure that what they’re saying makes sense with regard to the length of time and number of guards that are needed. If other firms have quoted 6 hours and 3 guards and they’re quoting 3 hours and 1 guard then they’re just trying to get your business.
