The 7 Advantages Of Security Patrols Over Static Guarding

Cars By MA Services Group For Mobile PatrolingMany properties or estate managers who hire security might not consider roving or moving patrols as an option. However, they have definite advantages over static guarding. In fact, here are 7 solid reasons why you might want to consider opting for moving patrols.

Less likelihood of fatigue

Although static guarding doesn’t necessarily mean the guard stays in one place, staying awake when everyone else is tucked up in bed can be difficult. Remaining in one location can exacerbate that fatigue quickly. Conversely, continually patrolling from one place to another means the situation doesn’t allow time for the guard to fall asleep. In addition and in most instances, they’re likely to be in charge of a vehicle, so alertness is key at all times.

Easily track-able

Do you often wonder where your security guards are? It’s very easy for a static patrol to nip off for a 5-minute unauthorised tea or smoke break. Mobile patrols on the other hand will usually have some form of GPS so that you can see exactly where they are at any given time.

Visual presence

The idea behind security is that it creates a visual presence which should in theory deter any opportunist criminals from committing burglary or theft. Moving patrols with their large well-marked and branded vehicles do exactly that.

Economically cheaper

Because static security offers what’s known in the industry as a ‘dedicated’ service, e.g. you pay for the service for the whole time the guard is working, it isn’t always the cheapest option. Typically, moving patrols still provide you with an all-night service presence, but because they often divide their time between several clients on a single shift, that cost is cheaper.

Fast response

Naturally roving or moving patrols are going to be able to respond to situations quicker than static guards because they’ve got four wheels. In addition, with multiple vehicles patrolling one area it’s more likely that someone may have seen something suspicious taking place.

Easier to co-ordinate

Roving patrols can easily be co-ordinated to come to a rendezvous point or area when needed. One quick message on the radio is usually sufficient for all parties to be alerted that they need to come back to base or to meet in a certain area. Whereas if you have static guards and/or foot patrols, it’s naturally a more time-consuming process to bring everyone together.

Limits unauthorised activities

In the old days, shift supervisors would have to go round and check to ensure static guards were carrying out their duties as they should. Naturally, this could be both times consuming and expensive. With moving patrols that don’t need to happen because most vehicles are fitted with vehicle cameras. As well as being designed to protect the vehicle occupants, the camera can also be used to monitor the whereabouts of the guard at any one time. So no more having to guess what the patrol are doing because it’s easy to log on to a connected laptop or PC and see for yourself.
